Rwanda Golden Monkeys

Rwanda is one of the smallest countries in the world with its size estimated to be around 10,169 mi². This country is located in East Africa and it’s also called “the land of a thousand hills” simply because of its undulating topology and the many hills that occupy most of its lands. But one interesting thing about this small country is that it’s one of the most visited destinations in Africa and this is attributed to its hard-to find tourism fraternity. The country is blessed with different types of tourism attraction amongst which are those which cannot be found elsewhere. These have continuously attracted people who travel from their countries to come and have a thrilling experience in Rwanda. Below is a list of the best three tourism activities one can Enjoy while on a Rwanda Safari;-

  1. Gorilla & Golden Monkeys;- This is the number one adventure one can enjoy on a visit to Rwanda. With only few mountain gorillas left in the world, this East African country is among the three countries where one can go and trek the primates in their natural habitats. This activity is the leading tourism activity in Rwanda and it has greatly helped in improving its tourism industry. These rear primates are found in Volcanoes National Park which is located on the border with DRC. Rwanda is estimated to harbor 300 mountain gorillas and this makes it the best place to go especially for those interested in viewing this great apes. It should be noted that gorilla safaris contributes a lot to the country’s income because it generates a lot of revenue from tourism. This is got through selling the gorilla tracking permits which cost US$1500 per person per day. Trust me spending a whole day in the thick tropical forests of Volcanoes national park searching for mountain gorillas is a dream-come-true. These elegant primates are worth watching as they roam about the whole area with their young ones. The maximum time allowed to spend with the gorillas of Rwanda is one hour and this is enough time for a tourist to do whatever he wants with the primates like taking photos with them and playing with the friendly ones.

Golden monkey trekking is another thrilling activity one can enjoy while in Rwanda and this is done in Volcanoes national park where they are found. In most cases, it combined with gorilla tracking to cut costs and reduce the time spent on a safari.

  1. Dian Fossey Grave Hike; – You might have read or heard about Dian Fossey, the late prominent primatologist who was murdered by poachers in the forests of Volcanoes National Park in her line of duty. She was a primatologist whose interest was to protect the mountain gorillas of Rwanda from poachers. It’s because of her that Rwanda has many mountain gorillas today and she is remembered worldwide. When she died, she was buried in Volcanoes National Park next to her two lovely gorillas which died at the same time when she was killed. Today, many people especially those interested in knowing more about her visit Rwanda and hike to her grave. This site has now become a great tourism site and it attracts very many people.
  2. Kigali City Tour: This is another adventure which a tourist can opt for while in Rwanda. It’s splendid and full of amazing cultural experience on a drive through Kigali. It includes visiting the Genocide Memorial site and the Juru Park.
