Sabyinyo Lodge is one of the latest addition to the Wilderness Camps. This quite luxurious lodge is managed by the Wilderness Destinations. Located on the foothills of the Virunga Volcanoes, this lodge enjoys a remote location with remarkable views of the region. The property is community owned and its relationship with the community, local custodians of the protected area.
The lodge is a perfect gateway to gorilla trekking as well as a wealth of activities that are done in the Volcanoes National Park. Formerly called the Sabinyo Silverback Lodge the lodge is under new management of Wilderness Conservation Camps, a company that manages several camps across East and Southern Africa.
Sabyinyo Lodge is the first ever community run establishment in Rwanda. It is perched along the foothills of the volcanic Virunga volcanoes in North-western Rwanda just adjacent to Volcanoes National Park. This was established and run by Governors’ Camp Collection although the ownership entirely is under a Community Trust, Sabyinyo Community Livelihood Association (SACOLA). The community trust uses rentals and community fees from the lodge to boast the socio-economic and conservation projects in the local communities close to Volcanoes National Park.
Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge is set at elevation of 2515m and tourists enjoy breathtaking views of nearby volcanoes. This hospitality establishment is 20 minutes’ drive from Kinigi where offices for Volcanoes National Park sit. It is entirely a luxury safari lodge consisting of 6 cottages, 2 suites and a family cottage. Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge features spacious rooms and en-suite bathroom, fully decorated with picturesque wildlife paintings specifically for mountain gorillas.
Facilities at the Lodge
The lodge has a total of eight en-suite cottages, made up of standard, suite and family cottages. The main lodge building homes a lounge area, a dining room, a library, a games room, a responsible travel and community awareness room, a shop and a reception. The lounge area is particularly cosy, with three large roaring fireplaces to keep guests warm on chilly evenings. There are also two patio areas which are platforms out to the jaw-dropping views of the Virunga volcanoes.
The rooms are Rwandese terracotta tile roofed. They are all very spacious, featuring a sitting area, a fireplace and a private sheltered veranda. As the evenings do get cool, the fireplace acts a heat supply, as well as running hot water.

Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge provides the best luxury accommodation to travelers interested in suite rooms, cottages or family cottages. Each of the lodge’s room comprises of large double/twin beds, minibar, dressing room and pre-stocked with bottled drinking water and wines in case you do not want to get to the bar.
Compared to cottages, the suites are a bit larger with separate lounge area. Each of the suites consist of TV and family cottages are exceptional with en-suite bedrooms. The meals on the other hand are amazing. The lodge offers the best continental and full English buffet, lunch and dinner.
